Embrace the Sacred Path to Inner Peace

Welcome to the Texas Buddhist Vihara in Conroe, Texas, a peaceful space where people come together to find calm, wisdom, and spiritual guidance. Rooted in the teachings of the Buddha, our temple offers a place to reflect, connect, and grow through kindness and mindfulness. Established in early 2024, we are committed to preserving the traditions of Theravāda Buddhism while building a community open to all.

Our History

Buddhism began over 2,500 years ago with the enlightenment of Prince Siddhartha Gautama, who became the Buddha. His teachings, known as the Dhamma, offer a path to overcome suffering through ethical conduct, meditation, and wisdom. Theravāda Buddhism, the oldest surviving tradition, emphasizes the original teachings of the Buddha and is widely practiced in Sri Lanka, Thailand, Myanmar, and other parts of Southeast Asia. It focuses on individual spiritual development, the pursuit of Nibbāna (enlightenment), and reverence for the Pāli Canon, the earliest collection of Buddhist scriptures. Today, Buddhism continues to inspire millions worldwide, offering timeless wisdom for inner peace and mindful living.

Spiritual Guidance

In Theravāda Buddhism, spiritual guidance helps people live with wisdom, kindness, and mindfulness. Monks offer teachings, lead meditation sessions, and provide personal advice to support spiritual growth. Key practices include mindfulness and concentration to develop inner peace and clarity. The Noble Eightfold Path guides individuals toward living with right actions, thoughts, and awareness. Through this guidance, people learn to face life’s challenges with calmness and compassion for all beings.

Programs and Services

The Texas Buddhist Vihara offers a variety of programs to help people develop wisdom, kindness, and mindfulness. Monks lead meditation sessions, Dhamma talks, and provide one-on-one spiritual guidance to support personal growth. Sīla programs are conducted on Poya days (full moon days), encouraging participants to observe moral precepts and deepen their practice. Regular activities focus on mindfulness practices and following the Noble Eightfold Path, promoting right thoughts, actions, and awareness. These programs are open to all, helping individuals cultivate inner peace and compassion in their everyday lives.

Community and Outreach

We are committed to building a compassionate community that welcomes people from all backgrounds. The temple organizes outreach programs to support local charities and assist those in need. Volunteers come together regularly for community service activities, creating opportunities for connection and kindness. Special events, such as Poya day celebrations and cultural festivals, bring people together to share traditions and promote harmony. Through these efforts, we aim to inspire compassion and mindfulness, making a positive impact within and beyond the local community.

Cultural Initiatives

In addition to the annual Kathina ceremony, the temple celebrates major Sri Lankan cultural events like Vesak and Sinhala and Tamil New Year, keeping traditions alive within the community. These events offer opportunities to gather, share cultural practices, and enjoy traditional music, dance, and food. Through these celebrations, the temple fosters cultural understanding and ensures Sri Lankan heritage is preserved for future generations.
